OnlineComics.net is Merging with ComicSpace and Webcomics Nation!!! |
 | Today, Joey Manley and I signed Letters of Intent to merge our various properties into a single corporate entity. When the dust settles, ComicSpace, Webcomics Nation, TalkAboutComics, and OnlineComics.net will be rolled up into one big happy super site. The super site will be called ComicSpace.
I realized several months ago that my days were numbered as a one-man operation. ComicSpace and OnlineComics.net simply require more resources than I have to give (both financially and personally). Thanks to ComicSpace's fast and furious launch late last year, I've fielded several offers to partner, merge, even sell ComicSpace. But none of those offers felt right. Some of them felt very, very wrong.
Enter Joey Manley. For those of you unfamiliar with Joey, he's the guy behind webcomicsnation.com, talkaboutcomics.com, moderntales.com, serializer.net, girlamatic.com... *pause for breath*... graphicsmash.com, graphicnovelreview.com and a few others.
A couple months ago, Joey and I started talking. Okay okay, Joey did most of the talking and I grunted and nodded my head from time to time. But by the end of the conversation we had pretty much decided to merge our properties into a single cohesive super site.
We were excited. We were pumped. Then we remembered we didn't have any money.
Enter E-Line Ventures, a New Jersey-based ‘double bottom line’ early-stage investment firm (they look at both the financial and social impact of their investments). We like these guys a lot. They're smart. They take us out to dinner. And they have lots of money they want to throw at us. We plan to use that money to facilitate the merger, hire programmers and develop wicked (Maine lingo) new features for readers and creators.
No one panic! Nothing's going to change today, or tomorrow, or even next week. This process is still in its beginning stages, but we're hoping to have the new site up and running within a couple months. The new site will retain all of the functionality of the existing sites, so you'll be able to do everything you can do now, plus a whole lot more.

 | This sounds great, looking forward to the big merger.
You've done a great job for all of us online comic artists by providing this free service, I hope things work out for the best.
Good job getting things together, Josh! :) |
 | yes, all the best wishes for the MERGE! keep up the good work and thanx so far - miss egg. |
 | the merge is fine but comicspace is the weakest name of them. |
 | It's great news that this merger is taking place. I hope to see more inter-cooperation from the myriad of independent publishers out there like this if not actual mergers. Perhaps together more can be accomplished than by a lot of little singular entities alone.

 | Hey, this is pretty neat.
I'm glad it's gonna get bigger and better and easier to manage!
I'm a big fan of this place and Comicspace (even if I don't get to use it much). |
 | Good luck with this! It's cool to see this kind of venture in the comic world. |
 | whats going on with the merge. its been a while. ? |
 | Today, Joey Manley and I signed Letters of Intent to merge our various properties into a single corporate entity. When the dust settles, ComicSpace, Webcomics Nation, TalkAboutComics, and OnlineComics.net will be rolled up into one big happy super site. The super site will be called ComicSpace. The ComicSpace.com domain appears to have been active for some time. What impact does this have for onlinecomics.net users? PLEASE POST AN UPDATE! The following are some questions that should be addressed. Fellow onlinecomics.net users, please post your inquiries as well!
Has _ANY_ user data been exported from onlinecomics.net to comicspace.com? What about respective user privacy agreements?
Who is the intended audience for comicspace.com? How does the site differ from onlinecomics.net?
Will onlinecomics.net implement any bug fixes or feature requests? Or is it "AS IS" for perpetuity?
The new site will retain all of the functionality of the existing sites, so you'll be able to do everything you can do now, plus a whole lot more. Does the new site _really_ feature a superset of all the contributing sites' features, or is it merely a significant subset from each?
What about existing user data? Will users have to recreate their accounts? Will users be able to import data from the respective sites to the new comicspace site?
Creating an account to determine this, it appears to only feature a subset... Moreover, many of the comics in my favorites are NOT available in the comicspace database!
What will happen to the existing individual domains, databases, etc? Will the onlinecomics.net domain continue to be renewed and hosted separately? Will onlinecomics.net
be discontinued? Will onlinecomics.net become a mere redirect to comicspace.com?
Why does onlinecomics.net seem to resolve so slowly? Has the bandwidth been significantly reduced, throttled, hosting plan/company changed?

Who will own, who will operate, who will maintain, etc. the combined site? Same question for the individual sites, eg onlinecomics.net. |
